I think I have it fixed.
I found this thread while doing a Google search for the error message I received. I decided to try reinstalling the most recent Combo Update instead of performing a clean installation to see if it would work. After deleting the problem file from the target drive I performed a smart update of the source drive which seems to be working.
I have not found the problem file in the source drive though. Thanks for looking
