This is probably the intermittent OSX bug in 10.4.x that causes the status display to stop updating on some Intel Macs. You can downgrade to 2.1.4 (which doesn't use the API with the bug), or upgrade to Leopard (where the bug was fixed).
Note that we've worked around the problem in the next update, too.
