The long mount is due to the disk mounting process scanning the image for proper construction (which was a security fix some time ago).
It's clearly running slowly, and I can only suggest this is because your network connection, drive, server, etc is running exceptionally slowly... faster NAS devices (such as the ReadyNAS Pro) run at near FireWire speeds.
