Shell Script
Just reading the options. What would be an example of a shell script that would be run and for what purpose?

That's typically used by people who need to do setup and cleanup tasks, such as servers where you need to checkpoint databases, stop services and the like. (That's why it's in "Advanced".)

I have SuperDuper! scheduled to run every morning at 3:15. I use a shell script to send me an email when the copy is complete. If I don't see an email in the morning, I know there was a problem.
